Don creates score and soundscape for
world premiere drama "Stone Hearts"

Stages Theatre Company commissioned Don to create an original score and soundcape for its world premiere drama "Stone Hearts."

Steve Barberio, Producing Director of Stages Theatre Company spoke recently of Don's work.

"Like a movie score, Don Strong's emotionally compelling music blends elements of traditional eastern European and contemporary orchestral sounds.

"The composer juxtaposes these exotic musical colors with touches of ethereal Bosnian vocals, "trip-hop" trance beats and heavy metal guitar.The effect is powerful and evocative."

Stone Hearts chronicles the plight of a family
coping with the harsh circumstances of war

We see through the eyes of a 16-year-old named Camila as she struggles to find meaning in a world shattered by the chaos of war.

The play combines authentic transcripts from new research on the psychological and sociological effects on the family of Bosnian women about their plight during the Balkan conflict with a fictionalized family story created from actual incidents.

In the end, Camila must choose either to succumb to the emotional and spiritual vacuum of the adults around her or embrace the larger sense of humanity she finds within herself and her siblings.

The authentic transcripts were gathered between 1996 and 1998 when Cheryl Robertson, a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Minnesota, interviewed Bosnian women about their plight during the Balkan conflict.
